January 2023 updates
Hello everyone and Happy New Year! Thank you for all your efforts this past fall in keeping regularly scheduled practice times and checking in with your child to make sure they know what is expected of that weeks assignment. March 19 recital music includes water-themed music and student favorites or compositions. May 21 recital music includes orchestral themes and duets. All students are expected to attend the performances. Thank you all for actively participating in music!
Events & Information
The Edmonds Music Teachers Association has a non-competitive composition recital on January 29 at 3pm. The purposes are to encourage students to compose, to experience performances of their music and to offer them the opportunity to hear other students’ work. Each participating student is responsible for providing a finished, rehearsed performance to show to the public. There are no restrictions as to instruments, performers, duration or style. Anyone may be engaged to perform the pieces, including the student, teacher, friends, etc. An upright piano is in place on the stage. It will be held at the Third Place Commons Stage in Lake Forest Park. Registration is due by January 15.
The Washington State Music Teacher's Association has a Young Composers Project which offers an educational opportunity for students in Washington State to receive evaluations of their original compositions. Each student will receive written comments from a WSMTA approved adjudicator and a certificate of participation. $25-30 fee, application, composition pdf, and mp3 is due February 22, 2023. First place winners per grade level receive a small cash prize. More information can be found at: https://wsmta.org/programs-for-students/competitions/young-composers-project/.
