About Marie
I am currently in my 24th year of teaching. I enjoy working with all ages and have a calm easygoing personality with a love for the piano and the music that composers have provided for it. Piano lessons are held in my home studio in Shoreline, WA as well as through video-conferencing using the Zoom app. I also enjoy reading, hiking and going on outdoor adventures with my family!
I have experience teaching ages four through adult, beginners through advanced. I received a Master of Arts in Music with emphasis in piano performance from Eastern Washington University. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music with piano performance emphasis from the University of Portland. I studied with Kendall Feeney, David Rostkoski, Linda Barker, and Jacqueline Erland. I was an adjunct instructor at the Colorado Springs Conservatory as well as an adjunct instructor at Faulkner University where I taught music theory, music appreciation, music history and accompanied the choir. I am a trained Musikgarten instructor: birth through age 5. I am also a member in good standing with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Washington State Music Teachers Association (WSMTA) and the Edmonds Music Teachers Association (EMTA). Students have won awards at Pacific Piano Competitions: International German Music Piano Competition, International French Music Piano Competition; Northwest Festivals: Bach, Classical Viennese, and Virtuoso, as well as at the Russian Chamber Music Festival Competition, NW Chopin Festival, WSMTA Young Composer Festival, as well as won Honorable Mentions and Best of Festivals from EMTA's Time Era Festival, Ensemble Festival, Jazz, Rags, and Blues Festivals as well as the Excellence in Music Awards.
Lesson rates range from $105-210 per month depending on your choice of time: 30, 45 or 60-minute lessons. I also offer family discounts. Lessons focus on bringing music to life and piano technique. This includes actively learning new music, sight-reading, rhythm/ear-training practice, composing, music theory and related games, and music appreciation. There are four studio performance opportunities per year as well as other performance opportunities available through the Edmonds Music Teachers Association and local Seattle area. I will work with your goals and needs in mind so you will stay motivated to enjoy your lessons and music.
